“The decision to distribute water in the southern Gaza Strip, approved by Prime Minister (Benyamin) Netanyahu and President (American Joe) Biden, will push civilians to the south of the Gaza Strip,” Israeli Energy Minister Israel Katz said in a statement press release.

The municipality of Beni Souheila (southern Gaza Strip) confirmed that access to water had been restored, according to a press release.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan previously claimed that Israel had told him about the return of water to the south of the Palestinian territory, which lies between Israel and Egypt.

“I have been in contact with my Israeli counterparts who have informed me in the last hour that they have restored water supplies to the south of the Gaza Strip,” he told CNN.

On Monday, Israel, which had imposed a blockade on Gaza since the Hamas takeover in 2007, ordered a halt to water, then electricity and fuel supplies to the micro-territory.

He then called on residents of the Palestinian territory’s north – around 1.1 million people out of a total population of 2.4 million – to flee south, claiming they would attack the city of Gaza (north) as the center of operations to destroy the Islamist movement.

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Sunday that around a million people had been displaced in the Gaza Strip within a week.

According to local authorities, more than 2,400 people have died in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip.

According to the latest figures from Israeli officials, more than 1,400 people were killed in Israel in the attack by Hamas commandos, with 126 people also taken prisoner.
