South Africa and Namibia deepen bilateral relations

As South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced during the recently concluded South Africa-Namibia Economic Forum in Windhoek, international relations ministers reported on up to 159 areas on which they had reached agreement in recent days.

This process, he said, began after Namibian President Hage Geingob visited South Africa earlier this year.

In his words, Ramaphosa assured that both countries could also take advantage of the opportunities offered by the African Continental Free Trade Area to position themselves as the industrialization center of the continent.

The areas of cooperation include work on the so-called

Green hydrogen, developing cross-border value chains to advance industrialization and economic development, encourage greater investment in each other’s economies and facilitate deeper relationships with the private sector.

Ramaphosa also highlighted South Africa’s favorable location as a destination for foreign investment and urged Namibian companies to do business in the country and South African companies to do the same in Namibia.

To boost investment, we agreed to call on our trade and industry ministers to work on establishing a financing mechanism for industrial and productive development projects, he said.
