Plena Libre took the stage at Plaza de Recreo Manuel Corchado y Juarbe at around 9:30 p.m. With a picture of the late musician in the background, the members of the Plena group, founded in 1994, came together in a moment of reflection before beginning the repertoire. Among the musicians was Núñez’ son, LuisGa Núñezwho even said, “Let no one cry because today celebrates the life and legacy of a son of this family.”

Before this presentation, where those present observed a few minutes of silence for the producer, bassist and music director, LuisGa expressed his feelings through social networks.

“In all this pain, I realize that my father touched many hearts and I am proud of that. Thank you for so many messages and love, I promise to answer them all. On the way to Isabela @plenalibrepr to celebrate his life and his commitment to the music of his country. Let no one cry as today celebrates the life and legacy of one of this family’s sons. #JoyBombaEhhe highlighted on his Instagram account, along with his father’s photo.

As announced earlier this week when Núñez made a statement about his illness, Plena Libre will continue its regular work schedule. That same week the group will travel to Colombia to conduct another presentation.

On Saturday, Valerie Cox, Núñez’s wife, announced the musician’s death in a press release.

“Dear friends. With pain in our souls, my children and I inform you this morning of the death of my Gary (Núñez). “Gary died in our home, surrounded by us and his family, receiving all the love he gave throughout his life.”began Cox.

“As he himself told you a few days ago, my beloved husband was suffering from pancreatic cancer, the diagnosis of which reached us a few weeks ago. “Gary fought as hard as he could to cope with the disease, and I’m sure he did too, so that our children LuisGa, Joel and Adriana and I were affected as little as possible,” she added.

Just on October 9 last year, the music producer and bassist had made some written statements to pass on to the Puerto Rican population suffering from pancreatic cancer.

“Dear friends. Life sometimes surprises us and presents us with challenges that we never thought we would face. Today it is my turn to face an enormous challenge that I want to share with you because of the love I have for the entire Puerto Rican people and the support I have received from you for decades.he mentioned at the time.

“After an extensive list of studies and medical examinations, I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few days ago. Together with my wife Valerie and my children LuisGa, Adriana and Joel, and the team of specialists who look after me, we are taking care of the situation and doing our best to overcome this setback. There is life,” he had emphasized.
