Suzanne Somers had an incredible love story with Alan Hamel that spanned half a century.
The Three’s Company actress had spent 55 years with her long-term partner before she tragically passed away on Sunday morning, a day before she would have turned 77.
The couple were married together for 46 years and their love continued throughout their 23-year battle with an aggressive form of cancer.
Over the years, the couple built a close-knit family and a remarkable brand that sold over 500 products.
The couple have also been open about their very spicy sex life, as Somers has previously spoken about how she “spoiled” her husband in bed.
Long-time couple: Suzanne Somers had an incredible love story with Alan Hamel that spanned half a century. The Three’s Company actress had spent 55 years with her long-term partner before she tragically passed away on Sunday morning, a day before she would have turned 77
Finally, Hamel touchingly wrote her a gushing love letter, which he gave to her “a day earlier, and she read the poem, went to bed and later died peacefully in her sleep,” Somers’ publicist told People.
In 1969, the couple first met on the set of the syndicated game show series “The Anniversary Game,” with Somers as the prize model and Hamel as the host.
Her time on the show was short, but their romance sparked and continued even after she left the show.
Years later, in March 1977, the couple bought a home together in Palm Springs, California.
They had been passionately together for ten years before tying the knot in September of that year.
They remained inseparable until she “passed away peacefully at home.”
In Hamel’s love letter to Somers, he had proudly mentioned that for 42 years they never spent more than an hour apart.
The couple had no children together but blended their families into a loving and strong unit.
Somers is survived by her son Bruce Somers Jr., 57, from her previous relationship.
Hamel also has two children from his first marriage.
