Everything indicates that Quebec could get its first snow next Sunday, October 22nd.

A possible first snow

The atmospheric context will soon be favorable for the arrival of snow in the province, particularly due to a polar cold injection in Quebec.

In Abitibi-Témiscamingue, more precisely in Val-D’or, the first snow fell on October 9th, a day after the date that marks the seasonal normal for this sector. At the moment, this is the only region that has recorded its first snow in Quebec. However, this situation could soon change.

The various weather models are currently observing the occurrence of flakes and thus the likelihood of snow. While these dates could change by next Sunday, it’s still possible to see the first snow in a week.

When does the first snow usually come?

If this first snow becomes official, it would represent a slight improvement over seasonal norms for southern Quebec. In fact, normal for Sherbrooke is around October 29th. For Montreal, the average is October 27th. October 22nd would therefore be a little too early to see the first snowflakes fall to the ground.

While this is a bit early for these regions, it is completely seasonal for other regions. In Rimouski this date is October 22nd.

The only region that would be significantly delayed is Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, where the first snow usually falls on October 10th.
