LIVE Day 8 of the Israel Hamas war

Israel-Hamas: No news from his parents for a week

A Toronto woman and her husband who were reportedly injured near the Gaza border last Saturday have been missing for more than a week, according to their daughter.

“We don’t know if they were kidnapped in Gaza. We don’t know,” Iris Haggai Liniado told CTV News.

Her parents, Judih Weinstein, 70, and Gad Haggai, 72, were walking on the morning of Oct. 7 near Kibbutz Nir Oz in southern Israel, where they have lived for nearly 30 years, when the Hamas attack occurred.

In a chat with other family members on WhatsApp, the septuagenarian wrote to her children: “We are lying face down in the fields. The rockets are above us. We see hundreds of them.

After several more conversations with colleagues and a neighbor, the couple heard nothing more.

Her daughter, who lives in Singapore, was worried and tried calling everywhere to find her. She told CTV News that kibbutz paramedics received a call from her mother saying she had been shot and that her husband was seriously injured.

“I’m trying not to cry. I can’t believe this is reality,” Haggai Liniado said, adding that he has also spoken to Israeli authorities as well as Canada and the United States to try to find her.
