Miami, Oct. 15 (EFE). – Actress Suzanne Somers, the blonde protagonist of the hit television series “Three’s a Crowd,” died of cancer this Sunday at the age of 76, People magazine reported.

According to her publicist, Somers died “peacefully at her home” in Palm Springs, California, this morning after suffering from aggressive breast cancer for more than 23 years. The actress died a day before her birthday.

The San Bruno, California-born actress began her career in small roles in the late 1960s and early 1960s, but rose to fame with the ABC series Three’s Company.

In it, Somers played Chrissy Snow, one of two roommates (the other, Janet Wood, was played by Joyce DeWitt) who agrees to rent the third room to culinary student Jack Tripper, a role played by John Ritter, and which it must specify be gay to comply with building regulations.

The show, one of the most popular of its time, aired between 1977 and 1984, although the cast was fired in 1980 in the midst of a fight for a raise.

Somers asked for an increase from the $30,000 he received per episode to $150,000, the same salary Ritter and other male stars earned on the network.

Executives only offered him a $5,000 raise. Sommers did not participate in the recording of two episodes, after which ABC fired her and was replaced by various actresses in subsequent seasons.

Somers appeared in other series and television shows in the following years. However, she found renewed success as a businesswoman when she founded the healthy living company ThighMaster with her husband Alan Hamel, from which she earned millions of dollars and became a guru in the field.

She wrote twenty books, some of which became bestsellers, focusing primarily on women’s well-being.
