Rice from Vietnam contributes to world food security

The figure was confirmed here by Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien, who pointed out that the Indochinese nation is capable of producing 43 million tons of grain, which not only guarantees domestic consumption but also provides significant yields can sell abroad.

Currently, Vietnam produces about 19 million tons of vegetables and fruits, 7.6 tons of meat, 18.5 billion eggs, 1.2 million tons of milk and more than nine million tons of aquatic products, ensuring food safety under all circumstances.

In the first nine months of 2023 alone, the country generated a record income of $3.66 billion from rice exports, boosted by high prices on the international market.

The figure represented a 40.4 percent increase over the previous year, shattering the previous record set in 2011, when foreign sales of the weed were 3.65 billion greenbacks.

The new record was achieved with an export volume lower than the previous one. While 6.6 million tonnes were exported between January and September this year, 7.1 million tonnes had to be sold in 2011 to reach the record levels.

Throughout 2023, the average export price for grain remained high and was 14 percent higher than the previous year.

In early August, the value of Vietnam’s exportable rice reached its highest level in 15 years (between $590 and $600 per ton), due to some countries imposing restrictions on overseas sales of the grain.
