Israel: Four attackers killed on the border with Lebanon

The Israeli army said it prevented a terrorist cell from advancing from Lebanon into Israeli territory on Tuesday. “Four terrorists were killed,” the military said. They tried to plant an explosive device and break through the security system. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned the Lebanese Hezbollah militia and Iran against attacks on Israel on Monday night.

The army is currently attacking Shiite militia posts, the Israeli military announced on Telegram on Tuesday. Lebanese security sources said on Tuesday that more than 100 mortars were fired by Israel into Lebanese territory overnight. However, these ended up mainly on the outskirts of Lebanese cities. There were initially no reports of injuries.

Meanwhile, the army killed the head of the Islamist Hamas Shura Council in an airstrike in the Gaza Strip. Osama Mazini was responsible for Hamas prisoners and directed terrorist activities against Israel, the army emphasized. The Shura Council elects the Hamas Politburo, which in turn is the highest decision-making body of the organization that governs the Gaza Strip. The day before, the Israeli military had already killed the regional head of Hamas’s secret services. The army also posted a video of the attack on Telegram.

Since the devastating terrorist attacks against Israel carried out by the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas and the Israeli army’s counterattacks in the Gaza Strip, there have been regular incidents on the Israel-Lebanon border in recent days, raising concerns about further escalation. “Don’t put us to the test in the north,” Netanyahu said Monday in parliament at the start of the winter session. “Don’t repeat the previous mistake because this time the price will be much worse.” US President Joe Biden told them in English: “Don’t do it.” I told you in Hebrew: be careful.”

On October 7, terrorists acting on behalf of Hamas carried out a massacre of Israeli civilians in border towns and at a music festival. It was the attack with the highest number of victims in Israel’s history. More than 1,400 people died during and in the following days. Palestinian militants also kidnapped more than 200 people that day. Since then, more than 2,800 people have been killed and more than 10,000 injured in fierce counterattacks by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
