Man who only had salt water to drink in Gaza receives food

Hasan Rabee, one of the Brazilians who tried to leave the Gaza Strip, reported on Monday (16) that he and his family only had salt water to drink.

This Tuesday (17), Habee stated that he received bottles of mineral water and food from the Brazilian Embassy in Palestine (see video above).

“We were given food and water, enough for many days. We really wanted to drink good water,” Habee said in front of bags full of supplies and his daughters in the house where the embassy had put him up as he waited to cross the GazaEgypt border.

Rabee is among the group of Brazilians taken to Khan Younes, a town in the southern Gaza Strip near the border with Egypt.

Another group is in Rafah, the border town where the checkpoint between the two countries is located.

Brazilians and hundreds of other foreigners are waiting for the green light from negotiations leading Israel and Egypt to open the border normally closed.

The situation is more complicated for the Palestinians, who are also concentrated in the south of the Gaza Strip after Israel called on residents to vacate the entire north of the territory. The agreement only covers the passage of foreigners into Egypt, and both Hamas and the Egyptian government have already said they will not allow Palestinians to cross the border.

Hamas has ruled the Gaza Strip since 2007 and therefore controls the exit from the checkpoint on the border with Egypt.

The Egyptian government fears that the Palestinians’ mass invasion will shift the conflict to their land.
