The singer-songwriter has been separated from her daughter’s father, musician David Lafleche, for some time and speaks about her new relationship with mock caution.
“My intimate life, it seems that I value it even more. At first it happened on its own [le fait de ne pas parler publiquement de cette relation]. He makes me feel heard, seen and listened to,” she says.
“It would be easy for me to share everything, but crime, I say everything about myself!” I hold my ground [comme] already extremely generous. “I don’t want to reveal everything about my relationship, that doesn’t detract from everything I already offer,” continues the woman we met at the age of 18 on the show Star Académie.

“Just breathe and stay okay, just put my head on his shoulder and feel safe. It brought me a lot of peace,” says the artist, who describes herself as a much more patient, attentive and loving lover over the years.
The best from both worlds
For the mother of six-year-old Gisèle, it was important to do things well and to progress this new love story step by step. “It seemed to happen quickly to the public, but David and I were separated long before we published our message on the networks,” she says.
She admits that the relationship she currently has with her daughter’s father is the one she would have liked to have experienced during her romantic relationship. This allows them to take family vacations and have dinner together every week.
“Today the beauty of our relationship is nameless. We probably saved his youth [celle de leur fille]. My ex plays golf with my boyfriend. I wish that for all people who go through this, but I know that’s not always possible,” adds Marie-Mai.
However, when it comes to songs, the artist has no intention of censoring themselves. Above all, she assumes that everything she experiences is something she experiences to tell the story.
“For me, it’s really vulnerable, not putting up barriers, not putting balm on so that it’s nice to talk about what’s beautiful and what’s not so beautiful, because I think we’re all in the same business. We need to hear that we are not alone,” she believes.
