Cartola’s 3D Mosaic Begins Production of Fluminense Fans; see photos

The match between Fluminense and Corinthians will feature two tributes to samba artist Cartola. The character of the third jersey, presented by the club last Wednesday, will make its debut precisely in the match this Thursday, in the 27th round of the Brazilian Championship. In addition, fans are also preparing a 3D mosaic for the duel, which is already being produced. See photos:

The game against Corinthians is Fluminense’s last game in Maracana before the Conmebol Libertadores final on November 4 against Boca Juniors. Tickets are still on sale for the southern sector, where the mosaic will take place.

The art is by artist Marcelo Ment, the same who designed Fred’s mosaic and Carlos Castilho’s panel in CT.

The launch of Fluminense’s new third kit exceeded the sales target planned for the entire month of October in 48 hours. The colors green and pink are reminiscent of the loving and successful partnership between one of the country’s most important artists and the Estação Primeira de Mangueira.

The shirt also features throughout the lyrics of the classic samba song “Corra e olha o Céu”, composed by Cartola and Dalmo Castello in 1974. The font used to print the poem on the uniform was inspired by Cartola’s own handwriting.

The poet’s birthday was chosen as the date for the introduction of the uniform. He was born in the Catete neighborhood in southern Rio and lived there until he was eight years old. He then moved to the Laranjeiras neighborhood, where his connection to the club grew. Only later did he move to Morro da Mangueira, where he helped found one of the most important samba schools in the country.

Fluminense and Corinthians will meet this Thursday at 9:30 p.m. (Brasília time) at the Maracanã in the 27th round of the Brazilian Championship. Flu ranks seventh with 41 points, three points behind the G4 and one point behind the G6. The final of the Conmebol Libertadores against Boca Juniors will take place on November 4th at 5 p.m. at the Maracana.
