The Provincial Court of Madrid ordered this Wednesday the reopening of the investigation into the murder of Francisco Javier Romero alias Jimmy, a Deportivo de La Coruña fan who lost his life on November 30, 2014 near the Vicente Calderón Stadium. after a fierce battle between the ultras of Atlético de Madrid and the Riazor Blues. The Chamber assumes that there is “obvious criminal evidence to identify the persons identified as responsible” for the allegations made by the various parties involved in the proceedings, including LaLiga.

The case was filed in December 2022 due to the alleged “absence of a known perpetrator” and the lack of credibility that the judge in charge at the time attributed to the story of a protected witness who claimed to know the identity of the perpetrator, considering that this got into constant contradictions. At that time, the trial ended with fines of between 300 and 1,350 euros for 75 defendants who took part in the mass brawl, without anyone being directly held responsible for the murder of the Galician ultra.

Now the provincial court has annulled the said decree and ordered a new trial in connection with the events that occurred almost a decade ago near the Vicente Calderón Stadium. The league was among the parties seeking to appeal last year’s decision to close the investigation. The organization led by Javier Tebas even went so far as to accuse the judge in charge of the case of making “easy or innocent arguments.”
In this way, the investigation is reopened into a case in which 82 fans of the two clubs involved were in the dock. The Frente Atlético and the Riazor Blues identify with ideological positions that contradict each other, which led to a call from both groups on social networks that led to the events already mentioned.
