Mesar finally gets his chance

Filip Mesar seemed to have a lot less pressure on his shoulders Wednesday morning.

After watching the first two games from the stands, the young Slovakian was only a few hours away from playing his first game of the season in the Laval Rocket jersey.

“I’m looking forward to playing this game and showing the best of what I have to offer.”

Last season, the 19-year-old right winger spent time in Laval and then moved to Kitchener in the Ontario Junior League. Is this the same fate that awaits him?

“I don’t think about that, I prefer to concentrate on my game. I just want to have minutes and enjoy the numerical advantage.

“He watched two from above to learn a little and then it was his turn. “We want to see what he can do,” said coach Jean-François Houle shortly after Wednesday’s morning training.

Mesar was selected at the very end of the first round (26th) last year and appears to be something of an enigma to develop for the Canadian’s management.

He could have stayed in Europe last year, but we decided to start the season with the Rocket, where he just came through. At Kitchener, a team that hit just over .500 last season, Mesar recorded 17 goals and 34 assists for 51 points in 52 games. However, the person most affected does not seem to be concerned about his situation.

“I spoke to Montreal and I trust them, they know what they are doing. I try to stay positive.”

Good player

In the camp of those whose trajectory is clearer is Joshua Roy, who has a goal and an assist in each of the first two games of the season.

Mitchell Stephens completed a trio with Joel Armia and the Beauceron on Saturday and he almost had stars in his eyes when he talked about Roy.

“He’s a very, very good hockey player, he’s very intelligent, very talented and he knows where he needs to be on the ice. This is a trait that only a few players possess.

“We play fast and try to put the puck in the net. When they have the puck, my job is to rush to the goal and create chaos so they can show off their talent.
