Kenya: This fake lawyer was arrested after winning “a dozen” cases

A Kenyan accused of identity theft after practicing law without the necessary qualifications continues to maintain his innocence after winning “at least a dozen” cases.

Last week, justice officials called on Kenyan police to arrest the man, who practices law under the name “Brian Mwenda.”

They claimed the person was an “impostor” who stole the identity of lawyer Brian Mwenda Ntwiga.

Local media reported that the “fake lawyer” with no training won 26 cases.

The story has fascinated the East African country and public opinion has oscillated between amusement and outrage.

Despite his indictment by the country’s authorities, several people rallied behind the fraudster.

He was praised by the Central Organization of Trade Unions, which highlighted his “brilliant mind” who succeeded “without traditional qualifications”.

He also received support from controversial Mike Sonko, the former governor of Nairobi, who is in turmoil after being charged with drug trafficking and money laundering.

He published a video on his X account in which he was accompanied by the “fake lawyer”. He asserts that he is “grateful for the support he receives” and will prove this “misunderstanding in due course.”

“He never killed anyone. He is not a terrorist,” pleaded Mr Sonko.

But despite his support among the Kenyan population, “Brian Mwenda” must be brought to justice.
