Premiere by Matthieu Pepper: The party (really) went to the village – Le Journal de Québec

Matthieu Pepper barely gave the audience a few seconds to catch their breath between jokes during his show Waiting for the village festivalWednesday in the Salle Albert Rousseau.

It’s obvious: We recognize a talented comedian when he makes his audience laugh with his charisma and candor before he’s even finished his joke. Matthieu Pepper easily made it into this category to highlight the media premiere of the first one-man show of his career.

The discovery of the year at the last Gala les Olivier showed a show characterized by self-irony and authenticity, especially when he talked about his youthful setbacks.

With a style sometimes reminiscent of Jean-Marc Parent, the 33-year-old comedian spoke without complexes and in a hilarious way about his weight and his first sexual adventures. His talent for normalizing generally unpleasant situations is amazing and so effective that when you looked out into the crowd you could see friends and couples pointing at each other and laughing after most of his jokes.

His relationship with his father

Matthieu Pepper not only made the crowd laugh when he talked about his relationship with his father, but more importantly, it was refreshing. Contrary to what we often hear humorously, the headliner instead described his father as emotional and caring. He then moved on to the topic of social norms and psychology as seamlessly as possible and kept the audience clapping their thighs.

Ah, the grocery store!

After this number we wanted to go shopping with Matthieu Pepper. He spent a good ten minutes on the subject of grocery shopping, a very mundane subject, but the gags he made on the subject will undoubtedly be remembered by viewers the next time they visit the supermarket.

This media premiere was a real home run for Matthieu Pepper, who fully deserved the standing ovation at the end of the show.

Matthieu Pepper’s opening act PO Forget more than made the most of the fifteen minutes he had on stage. The comedian tackled sensitive topics like racism and mental health with ease and nonchalance, earning laughs without unsettling the audience in the slightest. A comedian to keep an eye on in the coming days.
