Lupita Nyong’o is no longer dating He Who Must Not Be Named. On Thursday, the actress confirmed her separation from Selema Masekela without even mentioning the name of the TV presenter and sports commentator. “At this moment it is necessary for me to speak a personal truth and publicly distance myself from someone I can no longer trust,” she wrote in a lengthy Instagram statement. “I find myself in a time of sorrow because a love has been suddenly and devastatingly snuffed out by deception.” Nyong’o also appears to have added a conspiracy spell to photos of Masekela on her Instagram feed, which showed her relationship last December had brought into being so violently. She added that she was tempted to “hide” until she found the strength to say her life was better that way, and that she instead chose to share her experiences in hopes that it might help someone else going through the grief.
Just because she’s in pain right now doesn’t mean she can’t still find time for a little pleasure. Her announcement comes one day after she was spotted at a stop on Janelle Monáe’s Age of Pleasure Tour with newly divorced Dawson’s Creek actor Joshua Jackson. While Monáe’s upbeat, sensual setlist and vibrant floral decorations create the perfect atmosphere for a sweet date night, sources insist to TMZ that Jackson and Nyong’o were just friends who went to the concert in a larger group. Maybe the new couple just stuck together to celebrate self-love?
