JOLIETTE | Relatives of a 16-year-old boy who lost his life A few hours after receiving the license to drive a motorcycle, he was hit by a driver who was fleeing from the police because of a fake license plate, want the defendant’s sentence to be exemplary.

“Judge, you have the power to change things. “To ensure that the death of Félix Desrosiers-Nadeau is the starting point, so that a clear message is sent to the young people on the streets,” explained Lucie Nadeau this morning, whose son died in this tragedy.

The mother spoke Friday during the observation of Ludovic Clavette’s sentencing at the Joliette courthouse.

Last February, on June 28, 2022, in Saint-Ambroise-de-Kildare, in Lanaudière, the 20-year-old young man pleaded guilty, in particular, to two counts of dangerous driving causing death and fleeing the authorities.

Fake plate

On that day, Félix Desrosiers-Nadeau had just received his motorcycle license. According to his 60-year-old mother, it had been barely four hours.

Excited by the feeling of freedom his bike gave him, after dinner he decided to make one last trip to the grocery store to enjoy his motorcycle a little longer.

At around 8:30 p.m., the teenager was driving on the Chemin de Sainte-Béatrix when he was hit head-on by Clavette’s blue Subaru WRX, which had lost control on a curve.

The latter drove at more than 110 km/h in a zone with a maximum speed of 70 km/h in order to overwhelm the police officers who tried to intercept him.

His car was then tagged with a fake license plate that read “TABARNAK.”

The impact was so violent that the motorcyclist’s body was thrown 50 meters away. His death was quickly noticed.

Another 16-year-old teenager who was in the defendant’s car and who cannot be identified according to the court order also died.

A third occupant of the vehicle was also seriously injured but survived.

Not a trace

“It’s so serious that I’m still in shock,” Ms. Nadeau whispered as the audience was in an emotional mood. These were preventable deaths.”

“I hope with all my heart that Ludovic will pay for what he did,” added Florence Desrosiers-Nadeau, 20, who also testified that she loved her brother and considered him his confidant. It must begin with strong judgment. It is your duty, Judge.”

For his part, the victim’s father, Claude Desrosiers, told the court that he expected the justice system to impose an “appropriate” punishment.

“I want justice to be consistent. Because when justice is inconsistent, it arouses my anger. “That outrages me,” explained the 62-year-old pensioner.

“The road is not a race track. Felix knew it. I’m not sure the defendant knew that. “I wish someone had told her first,” he continued, trying to make eye contact with Clavette, who continued to stare at the floor.

“You will deserve your punishment and I hope you will accept it like a man,” Mr Desrosiers said.

Hearing adjourned

Touched, Judge François Landry wanted to address the grieving parents.

“I am a judge, but I am also a person and a father. Whatever the sentence, there is none that will ease the pain. Only time will help. I will listen to the lawyers and make a decision in accordance with the law,” he said.

In addition, in the afternoon following recent testimony, prosecutors were expected to propose a sentence they believe is fair for the young driver.

However, the hearing was postponed earlier than expected, partly because tempers broke out between the families involved in the palace corridor.

The Pursuit will therefore end its performances at the end of the month.
