Shifa Hospital, the largest in the Gaza Strip, receives the injured every day. Surgeons lack equipment, staff and medication.
In the Gaza Strip, after every Israeli bombardment, the wounded are taken to hospital using all available means. A building has just been destroyed and dozens have been injured, including several children. Among the wounded are Palestinian journalists at Shifa Hospital, the largest and best equipped in the Gaza Strip. In this chaos, a surgeon spends his days in the operating room. Given the lack of equipment, medicine and staff, he realizes that the hospital is on the verge of collapse.
200 patients could not be operated on
“We have more than 200 patients who need surgery and who could not be operated on because there were already injured patients when they arrived,” says Professor Ghassan Abu Sitta, a surgeon at Shifa Hospital. Thousands of people settled around the hospital. After being unceremoniously installed, the displaced Palestinians hoped to find safety.
