Rocket: A first win signed Joshua Roy

The Laval Rocket finally got their first win in the fourth game of the season, defeating the Rochester Americans 8-4 thanks to a five-point performance from Joshua Roy on Friday night at Place Bell.

The Quebecer put on a show for his fans, scoring a natural hat trick at the start of the third period. After Roy scored on the power play before returning to the locker room, he hit the target twice in 32 seconds.

With two assists, the 20-year-old right winger climbed to the top of the American League scorers list. He has nine points to his name in four duels. Not bad for someone playing his first professional season.

In addition to Roy’s good play, head coach Jean-François Houle can congratulate himself on incorporating tough guy Riley McKay into his training. He caused a stir in the first third and gave the hopeful Filip Mesar the first point with the Rocket.

Sean Farrell, Lias Andersson and Lucas Condotta also lit up the lantern at this offensive festival. Joel Armia scored his fourth goal in as many games in an empty cage. Brandon Gignac, for his part, collected three assists.

Goalkeeper Jakub Dobes faced 34 shots from the Americans. On Wednesday, they earned a 5-4 overtime win against the Rocket in Laval.

The Montreal Canadiens farm club will return to action on Saturday with a matchup against the Senators in Belleville.
