“The living infant, male, combination skin, was urgently transported to the pediatric department of the university hospital,” prosecutor Philippe Astruc told AFP.

“A criminal investigation into attempted murder has been transferred by the Rennes public prosecutor’s office to the department’s security service,” he added.

“The child, born a few hours before its discovery (…) is in good health,” Philippe Astruc then clarified.

“He weighs 3,370kg and measures about 50cm and would have been born at term,” he said. The infant “has been entrusted to the departmental council 35 by decision of the Rennes public prosecutor’s office and a children’s judge will be entrusted with his situation”.

According to Ouest-France, a resident who went to throw her garbage bag into a container on Friday morning heard baby cries.

According to the daily newspaper, the infant was in a garbage bag along with the placenta.
