The statement was made in a speech during a summit called by Egypt to discuss the war in the Middle East. Vieira said it was “urgent” to impose humanitarian pauses on the clashes, as well as to open humanitarian corridors and protect humanitarian teams.
However, the minister said the number of votes in favor of the proposal shows that there is broad political support for the Council to act quickly. “We believe that this vision is shared by the international community at large,” he said in a freely translated statement.
Mauro Vieira called for the issue to be discussed again at a UN meeting next Tuesday (24) in New York to discuss the situation in the Middle East and the Palestine issue.
“I suggest that we continue the conversation at the meeting at the highest possible level to continue to build consensus for immediate action. The paralysis of the Security Council has damaging consequences for the security and lives of millions of people. This is not the case “in the interest of the international community,” he explained in free translation.

In addition to Brazil and Egypt, representatives from Jordan, Qatar and Turkey as well as other countries in the Middle East and Europe are taking part in the summit.
