The same weapons that spread terror among American soldiers in Iraq. The Hamas explosives found by Israeli soldiers after the attack on October 7 last year raise fears that if Jewish state forces invade Gaza, Netanyahu’s army will first face the risks and dangers of the deadly “improvised lethal bomb.” would have to provide. The so-called “EFPs” (explosively shaped penetrators) are simple home-made devices that can cause hell. Hidden in Hamas tunnels and on the streets of Gaza, they pose one of the greatest threats to Israel’s vehicles and troops. Any doubts about their possible use by terrorists have been dispelled by a video released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which shows the following Raids showed weapons seized from terrorists and used in the attack on Israel. EFPs, never seen before in the Middle East, proved to be the deadliest explosives against American forces in Iraq, tearing apart troops and armored vehicles. According to the IDF, the video shows only part of the arsenal used by the terrorists, with rockets, missiles, mines and grenades.

Improvised explosive devices

EFP stands for “Explosively Formed Penetrator” and is nothing more than a homemade penetration explosive invented in Iran. They are feared by all Western troops and have never arrived in the Middle East before. The devices are easily recognizable by their typical shape, characterized by a concave disk attached to a bomb: they are made of copper and can be easily hidden in various commonly used objects such as coffee cans, pots or other containers. Once the EFP’s powerful and compact explosive charge is activated, the copper disc is fired in the direction it is facing, transforming it into a high-velocity projectile. The weapon is notorious for its range, destructive potential, and ability to inflict severe damage on both vehicles and personnel.

EFP, deadly and dangerous bombs

EFP ammunition with a range of 12 meters is extremely precise and extremely destructive at close range. They can penetrate thick metal sheets of armored vehicles and walls and cause severe damage to human personnel due to the copper fragments thrown during the explosion. “Between 2005 and 2011 – explained the Washington Post – these devices caused the deaths of 196 US soldiers out of a total of 4,000 dead and another 900 injured.” It is almost certain that Hamas has the “EFPs” in its tunnels and on the streets of the Gaza Strip, at the entry points which will then be used by the Israeli forces for a possible large-scale invasion. Although Jewish State troops are aware and prepared, it is extremely difficult to evade these explosives in small spaces in destroyed cities or during tunnel reconnaissance operations. The tactical concerns surrounding the impact of these devices on infantry troops would be one of the reasons Israel’s ground assault has not yet begun, as confirmed by former US Ambassador to Israel Daniel Kurtzer. Analysts also highlighted this: “Among the many challenges the IDF faces in a ground operation in Gaza, there is one that we in Iraq fear daily: the Iranian Explosive Formed Penetrator,” he wrote on X John Spencer, Head of the Guerrilla Studies Department of the Modern War Institute.
