- A diplomatic summit brought together Joe Biden, Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen at the White House on Friday. The American president, the president of the European Council and the president of the European Commission showed a united front in support of Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas and Ukraine’s right to do the same against Russia. “We call on China to put pressure on Russia to end its war of aggression and that it withdraws its troops from Ukraine immediately, completely and unconditionally,” they said together at the end of the summit.
- Joe Biden asks Congress for $61.4 billion for Ukraine (half of which would be spent on weapons) and 14.3 billion for Israel. However, reaching political consensus with Republicans in the midst of a crisis will be difficult.
- The Kremlin considers “unacceptable” the words of Joe Biden, who considers Vladimir Putin a “tyrant.” “Such rhetoric is hardly suitable for heads of state and is unacceptable for us,” said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
- Russia says Ukrainian forces are trying to cross the Dnieper. Moscow claims to have repelled Ukrainian attacks on the left bank of the Dnieper, which it occupies and where military bloggers say incursions are taking place, with Kiev trying to anchor its forces there.
- Ukraine claims to have repelled a new attack by the Russian army on the city of Avdiivka. This industrial city in the east of the country has been the target of fierce Russian attacks in recent weeks. Kiev claims to have inflicted “numerous losses” on the enemy.
- Bombing of Berdyansk: Several Russian military helicopters were “probably” destroyed by ATACMS missiles. “If these losses are confirmed, it is highly likely that they will have an impact on Russia’s ability to defend itself and carry out other offensive activities on this axis,” the British Ministry of Defense estimated in its daily report on the conflict.
- Damaged gas pipeline: Finland investigates Chinese ship. The investigation into damage to a gas pipeline and a telecommunications cable in the Baltic Sea is now focusing on the role of the Chinese ship NewNew-Polar-Bear, Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said.
