The President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, met in Canberra with the Governor General of Australia David Hurley, with whom he discussed bilateral relations between the two countries as well as economic and trade cooperation. During the talks between the two politicians there was no lack of references to the international situation, particularly with regard to Russia’s aggression towards Ukraine. “At a moment like the present, when the forces of evil are coordinating their forces to attack and destroy freedom-loving societies,” Nauseda said at the end of the meeting, “the entire free world has the duty to unite with Ukraine. “Victory. Only this will deter other potential aggressors from the temptation to repeat what Russia is doing.” Nauseda and Hurley also stressed the need to strengthen cooperation in rebuilding Ukraine and in forming an international coalition to clear the country of mines. In addition, Lithuania and Australia’s shared interest in reducing dependence on the Chinese market was highlighted, as well as the importance of cooperation in building resilient supply chains for strategically important technologies and materials.
