After Ricardo Trogi talks about his adventures in the cinema in 1981, 1987 and 1991, he thinks that the filming of 1995which has just begun in Quebec, marks the beginning of a second trilogy in his autobiographical series.

“Looks like I’ll take three more. I don’t know why I have this feeling,” confesses the filmmaker, whom Le Journal met on Saturday while filming a scene in the Charles-De Koninck pavilion at the University of Laval.
“I don’t know how many I can do. Every time I do it I feel like it’s my last one and I’m about to do one. I want to avoid… I don’t think I want to do a movie called 2001, and I’m doing Quebec-Montreal. It’s a beautiful moment in my life, but there’s no great comedy in it.”

Trogi thinks he could instead revisit his beginnings as a TV commercial director. “That would be the logical step. When I came back from the race I worked at MusiquePlus, that’s interesting too.”
Still in trouble
One thing is certain: what little we saw on Saturday suggests that Ricardo Trogi (played again by Jean-Carl Boucher) was still cultivating the art before the start of the World Destination Race, the central theme of 1995. to put his feet in the harness.
He was seen running away from the university with a large bag full of books, chased by a security guard. However, the latter was unable to reach him before Trogi stormed off in a red Honda Civic that appeared to be from the early 1990s.

Jean-Carl Boucher assures that he will never return to the role he has defended on screen for almost 15 years. “We have a lot of fun making these films, I can’t imagine ever getting tired of them. It’s still sweet,” he says.
Several generations affected
The actor says he notices that the years 1981, 1987 and 1991 span multiple generations.
“People, young people and parents who are nostalgic about this time like to run marathons [de visionnement]. It’s retro, but the problems are the same as today. I don’t think even Ricardo expected that younger people would be interested in something that wasn’t current.

For Ricardo Trogi, his films are impressive because of their “closeness to people”.
“They are a normal family and someone struggling with their desire to become something other than who they are. When it starts, I’m not on heroin under a bridge. I’m like many people who hope to improve their lot.
- After the part in Quebec, the team from 1995 will travel to Morocco and Nepal for the remainder of filming. The film will be released in summer 2024.
