Qatar could become a protagonist at the peace negotiations table between Israel and Hamas. The leaders of the Palestinian movement financed by the Emirate are housed on its territory.
At the peace summit, which took place in Cairo on Saturday, October 21st, he was crowned with an initial success. Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, wants to make his voice heard. His country wants to resolve the crisis between Israel and Hamas. How did Qatar become indispensable? It’s the story of a small piece of land between Saudi Arabia and Iran that dreams of sitting at the big table. Qatar is talking to everyone, the United States, France, but also with Hamas, whose leaders are guests in Doha. On October 7, some members were present at the attacks in Israel, and it is these Hamas men that Qatar is putting pressure on.
Qatar, economic support for Gaza
According to our information, the US called on Qatar to intervene in the first hours of the conflict. Because the Emir has a powerful weapon at his disposal: money. It is he who funds aid to the people of Gaza, with the United Nations providing billions of dollars. Qatar pays salaries and reconstruction after bombings, but is it indirectly funding terrorism? The emirate has always defended itself. If Qatar abandons Hamas, the movement could only turn to Iran. Westerners judge today that it was too dangerous a choice.
