Summit of heads of state and government in Egypt to discuss paths to peace ends without agreement
The host, President Abdel Fattah alSisi, condemned the forced relocation of Palestinians.
Last week, Israel ordered the population of the northern Gaza Strip to move to the south of the territory. AlSisi does not want Palestinians to settle in Egypt’s Sinai region.
Egypt’s border with Gaza is currently closed to passenger traffic. The country plays an important historical role: not only does it have the only border with Gaza that is not controlled by Israel, but it was also the administration of the territory until 1967.
Other Arab nations also fear that the Israeli offensive could drive Palestinians into neighboring states, as was the case in the 1948 war after Israel’s creation.

This was said by King Abdullah of Jordan, home to many Palestinian refugees and their descendants Forced displacement is a war crime.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, who rules the West Bank and has no ties with Hamas, which runs the Gaza Strip, said: Palestinians will not leave their land.
The Spanish Prime Minister strongly condemned the terrorist attacks against Israel and recognized the country’s right to defend itself in compliance with international law.
“If the international community does not act, the situation could worsen dramatically,” said Pedro Sánchez.
“That it does not lead to a much larger conflict, a religious war, a clash of civilizations,” emphasized Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
“The paralysis of the Security Council has consequences for the security and lives of millions of people.”
UN SecretaryGeneral Antonio Guterres said nothing could justify Hamas’ attack on Israeli civilians. And that these heinous attacks can never justify collective punishment of the Palestinian people.
In total, the Cairo Peace Summit brought together representatives from more than 30 countries, including presidents, prime ministers, monarchs and chancellors. But the United States, Israel’s closest ally and instrumental in previous peace efforts in the region, sent only one diplomat from their embassy in Cairo. And Israel didn’t send anyone. The conference ended without agreement on a joint statement.
France, Germany and the United Kingdom did not send any heads of state or government to the summit. They sent ministers as representatives.
In London, thousands of people took to the streets in a proPalestinian protest, a demonstration that was repeated in other cities around the world.
