Ryan Reynolds and Mandy Moore mock SAG-AFTRA over ‘strike-friendly’ Halloween costume rules: ‘Is this a joke?’

Ryan Reynolds, Mandy Moore and Melissa Gilbert called out the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) after the union issued new Halloween costume rules for striking actors.

On Wednesday, SAG-AFTRA released a flyer with guidelines for observing the holiday without undermining the ongoing strike, which reached its 100th day on Friday. The union told members not to dress up as characters from canceled content and instead opt for “generic characters and figures (ghost, zombie, spider).”

SAG-AFTRA also asked its members to refrain from “posting affected content on social media.” The policy prohibits members from selecting some of the most popular costumes of the year, including Barbie, Wednesday Addams and Spider-Man.

The backlash to SAG-AFTRA’s “strike-friendly” costume rules was swift, with celebrities taking to social media to vent their frustration.

“She’s not in the union, but she needs to learn,” he added.

Following Reynolds’ tweet, SAG-AFTRA issued a statement clarifying that the rules do not apply to members’ children.
