Mitchell Trubisky is expected to have more choices during free agency than he did a year ago when he signed a $2.5 million one-year contract to support Josh Allen in Buffalo. This year, Trubisky will have a chance to compete for a starting job somewhere.
It could be giants.
Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson pointed out in a report Tuesday that some in the league expect the Giants to sign Trubisky to compete with Daniel Jones. That makes sense, considering Trubisky’s offensive coordinator at Buffalo, Brian Daball, is now the head coach of the Giants.
The Giants also hired a quarterbacks coach (Shea Tierney) and signed a backup quarterback (Davis Webb) from Buffalo.
Trubisky made a surprise mention of the Giants during a podcast by ESPN reporter Adam Schefter.
“Josh is incredible,” Trubisky told Schefter via Zach Rosenblatt of NJ Advance Media. “I had so much fun with Josh and really Davis Webb and all of our quarterback room. Learning from[Bills Offensive Coordinator]Ken Dorsey, Offensive Brian Daball, and Shea Tierney.”
Trubisky has not denied an interest in joining the Giants. He also talked about the opportunity to join the Saints, Steelers, Colts and Commanders.
“I immediately think of Coach Daball just because I immediately contacted him in Buffalo,” Trubisky said. “I’m glad to see what he’s doing in New York. I don’t know where I’m going, but I know whatever he does there, he’ll handle this attack just fine. He is a great leader of men. He’s real and sincere with all the guys, and I think that’s why so many people respected him in our building. I’m excited to see what he’s going to do.
“And then, of course, New York, you think of the city. I haven’t been to New York many times, but you think of big New York and the giants. I know Coach Daball will do a great job and I’m happy to see this attack.”
Trubisky, 27, threw just eight passes to the Bills last year.
