Planes on the ground: Spirit Airlines abruptly cancels around a hundred flights

American airline Spirit Airlines canceled around a hundred flights on Friday after some planes were grounded for inspection.

The airline also expects the disruptions to last for several days, reports the New York Post.

“We have canceled a portion of our scheduled flights to conduct a necessary inspection of a small portion of 25 of our aircraft,” Spirit Airlines said in a statement.

“The impact on our network is expected to last for several days as we complete inspections and return to normality,” the company added.

Spirit Airlines did not provide information about the nature of the inspections.

As of late Friday afternoon, the company had canceled 11% of its schedule, representing the highest percentage of canceled flights among major U.S. airlines, according to tracking service FlightAware.
