Swiss elections, UDC wins 29%, Greens fall sharply Il Riformista

The conservative and anti-European Democratic Union of the Center Party confirms the expectations (UDC) won the Swiss elections after a campaign focused on security issues and in a context marked by the new terrorist threat in Europe and the outbreak of the Middle East conflict.

On a Sunday when citizens were called to the polls to elect the National Council and the Council of States, the two branches of the federal parliament, the reason for the UDC’s leap forward can also be attributed to the voters’ growing attention to these issues attributed to immigration, the cost of living and energy components.

While waiting for the final results, the UDC received about 29% of the vote; In second place would be the Socialist Party at around 17.5%, in third place would be the Center and the Radical Liberals with 14.6% each. Sharp decline for the Greens, who had great successes in 2019, whereas today they would end up at just over 9% and the Green Liberals would be at around 7%.
