Blaise Melly: “If I leave in four years, I will win”
The Valais UDC, whose “Le Temps” had previously accompanied the National Council campaign, reacted violently to its results. Lucky loser, he comes out fully motivated
He had to force himself a little, Blaise Melly. Shaking hands, campaigning, getting his head out of the shadows and out of these issues he loves. The Valais UDC was not elected to the National Council for which it ran. And yet it is the smile that dominates the hustle and bustle of the party in Sitten and leads to the conclusion: “I am very happy.” I had no illusions that it would have been very difficult to be elected. At the beginning of the campaign I thought I would come fourth on my list, that’s a done deal,” reacts the man, who is also head of the economics department at the University of Bern.

Rediscover the portrait of Blaise Melly
With 11,744 votes, he is pleased with the results achieved in his region between Sierre and Anniviers: “Where people know me, things went very well. Notoriety is almost all that matters, we see it in the clout of the graduates.
Goal: communal
Blaise Melly, already a member of the Valais Grand Council, says that “we have to be patient and work” and that one day it could “pay off”. Encouraged by the votes collected, he is already waiting for another election: the 2024 local elections: “There has never been a UDC in the executive branch of Sierre. Being the very first would make me really happy.” And the 2027 Federals? “It’s tempting. If I go again, I’ll win.”
