Deadly wildfire: The death toll in the deadliest wildfire in the U.S. in more than a century, which burned over Lahaina on August 8, recently rose to 99 after Maui County police discovered more remains

So far, police have identified the remains of 97 people from the Aug. 8 fire that destroyed much of Lahaina, a historic town on Maui’s west coast. The remains of two people have yet to be identified. Six people are still missing.

The wildfire started in a grassy area in the hills of Lahaina. Strong winds associated with a hurricane passing through southern Hawaii carried embers from house to house, hampering firefighting efforts.

More than 2,000 buildings were destroyed and around 8,000 people had to move to hotels and other emergency shelters.

Guy won the second season of The Next Food Network Star in April 2006 and has been a fixture on the Food Network ever since.
