As already indicated in this note, Google has attacked the Swiss market not only with its Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, but also with its Pixel Watch 2, its Pixels Buds Pro and various older smartphone models. Here is the multimedia test of the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, Google’s 100% Android 14 benchmarks and is intended to be exemplary.
The devil is in the details, I would like to say in the beginning, since the previous series not only looks very similar to the new Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, but these two models only have small differences apart from the size of the screens, i.e. 6.2 and 6, 7 inch.
Screens that are not only robust but also very bright. The Pixel 8 Pro is therefore protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass, whose brightness can reach 2400 nits, ensuring excellent readability even in direct sunlight. The Pixel 8 benefits from the previous generation’s Victus glass and a maximum brightness of 2000 nits.
Powerful and stylish smartphones
In the hand, the design is neat and the workmanship is in line with what Google normally offers. We have some nice products in our hands, priced at 719 and 999 francs respectively for the 128 GB storage versions. For the Pixel 8 Pro version with 512 GB of storage, the bill can be up to 1,199 francs.
But what are these standards worth, powered by the ultimate coreless 4nm engraved Tensor G3 chip? We are obviously tempted to immediately question these gems. After a few minutes on AnTuTu, the verdict is in: The two devices have almost 1,100,000 points compared to around 880,000 points for the Pixel 7 Pro, which was updated to Android 14.

A comparison that says a lot
Both devices are designed to produce beautiful photos with sensors of up to 50 Mpx. But be careful: While the Pixel 8 Pro has an excellent x30 digital zoom, the Pixel 8 is content with a maximum amplitude of 8x, which is still quite limited today.
The following comparison tests show that these standards are actually impressive in all situations. In addition, they shine with certain artificial intelligence (AI) functions, which make it possible, for example, to combine the best portraits of different people in a group photo.
To enhance a group photo, you need to use the “Best Take” feature built into the Google Photos application. To get started, you need to click on “Edit”, then select the “Tools” option and then select the “Best Take” option. After about ten seconds, different options from similar photos appear for each face. After selecting the best expressions, the software merges them. Well seen!
Multiple AI effects
The video isn’t neglected either. After recording a scene, it is possible to use several AI-powered functions. This allows us to rework the sound to remove distracting noises such as background noise or wind. Very practical and efficient. But the Pixel 8 can do even more by offering an HDR effect and many other effects and filters.
In any case, both smartphones are designed to take the best photos and videos in different situations, as can be seen from the technical data sheets and the results obtained below. Combined with the Google Photo algorithms, these Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pros perform absolutely well. Retouching capabilities let you transform photos to maximize the Pixel 8’s potential.

Fast charging on the program
Like most brands, Google offers us a world of fast charging with appropriate chargers if necessary. However, it’s not crazy in this regard, as the Pixel 8 Pro doesn’t support more than 30W, which still means it reaches 50% of its capacity in around thirty minutes. In addition, an ultra power saving mode ensures that the approximately 5,000 mAh battery supplies the Pixel 8 Pro with power for almost three days.
Overall, these two Pixels, protected by the original silicone case, are very fluid in use and pleasant to use. And sometimes certain features surprise you, such as the built-in thermometer, which allows you to measure the temperature of an object that is less than 5 centimeters away from the object.

With a Google One VPN
In Settings you’ll find Google’s VPN, which has gotten a lot of attention so far. Disabled by default, you must be careful to enable it according to the options you choose, such as: B. whether it is used in mobile networks or not. A small key appears at the top right.
In my testing, I didn’t find that this feature, which may provide additional data to Google, slows down browsing or watching videos on YouTube. To disable it, you have to go through the settings, where an option also allows temporarily blocking the VPN.

Even if some competitors’ devices show superior performance on paper thanks to Qualcomm processors, be it in Mpx or in pure performance, it has to be admitted that these two Pixels make an excellent impression in terms of overall performance, photo and video (even without 8K). leave , very marketing…).
So will you choose the Pixel 8 or the Pixel 8 Pro? The latter is more complete and has more memory and will satisfy even the most demanding. However, the more accessible base model Pixel 8 should satisfy many mobile users who want to make the most of Google’s services, which are sometimes difficult to compare or replace…
