The death toll in the Gaza Strip due to Israel’s ongoing bombing has risen to 4,651, including 1,873 children, the spokesman for the Ministry of Health in the besieged enclave of Ashraf Qudra announced this Sunday, October 22.

Qudra said in a statement that 1,023 women were also killed in Israel’s offensive against Gaza, which began on October 7.

The number of injured rose to 14,245, the spokesman added.

The latest escalation in the Gaza Strip, which has been under complete Israeli bombardment and siege since October 7, began when Hamas launched Operation Al Aqsa Flood, a multi-pronged surprise attack that included rocket fire and infiltrations into Israel on land, sea and and airway included. The group said the raid was in retaliation for raids on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and increasing violence by Israeli settlers.

The Israeli army then launched Operation Iron Swords against the Gaza Strip.

Gaza is experiencing a terrible humanitarian crisis with no electricity, access to water, food, fuel and medical supplies.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” to alleviate “epic human suffering”.

According to official figures, the death toll in Israel is 1,400 people.

On Saturday, a humanitarian aid convoy from Egypt began entering the Gaza Strip. It was the first aid delivery to Gaza since the armed conflict between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas broke out on October 7th.
