According to the company, estimated snowfall is between 10 and 15 centimeters and “some of the snow will melt upon contact with the warm ground.”
He advised anyone traveling during the storm to take precautions due to potentially dangerous road conditions and poor visibility.
For its part, Calgary city government warned drivers to plan ahead when exiting highways.
Chris McGeachy, city mobility spokesman, said in a statement that crews are working to prepare roads for the storm.
“Our teams are working around the clock, preparing equipment and materials, applying de-icing agents to potential problem areas such as bridge decks, and focusing on maintaining safe conditions on Calgary’s busiest routes as part of the city’s snow priority plan.”
Cyclists and pedestrians were also reminded to check conditions before riding and to wear appropriate footwear.
The weather forecast suggests winter will come early in the northern country this year, although a traditional winter season with “very cold” temperatures and abundant snowfall is expected in most provinces, meaning Canadians are bracing for the cold early need to prepare.
