(CNN) –– Dwayne Johnson heard the complaints about his wax figure and said he was doing something about it.
The Musée Grévin in Paris, France, which specializes in making wax figures of celebrities, recently came under fire for a Johnson sculpture that many felt was too light-skinned to portray the multi-ethnic actor.
On social media, some people accused the museum of “whitewashing” the “Black Adam” star’s figure, commenting that the recently unveiled image was suffering from a “melanin deficiency.”
Johnson, whose late father, wrestler Rocky Johnson, was of black Nova Scotian descent and whose mother Ata Maivia is Samoan, saw the outrage and addressed the issue on social media Sunday.
Johnson posted a video of comedian James Andre Jefferson talking about the wax figure, writing, “I knew @jamesjeffersonj had his sights set on this wax statue of Rock.”
“‘Is this how everyone felt when they lost the Little Mermaid?'” he quoted Jefferson, adding a laughing emoji.
“For the record, I will be asking my team to contact our friends at the Grévin Museum in Paris, France, so we can work on ‘updating’ my wax figure here with some important details and improvements, starting with the color of my skin ,” Johnson added.
The museum’s website states: “After Dwayne Johnson was selected in the first edition of the Grévin Prizes, sculptor Stéphane Barret had to resort to photographs and videos to create a statue as close to reality as possible without the presence of the international star.”
