Let’s get the word out: Olivia Rodrigo’s close friend Tate McRae revealed in an interview with Capital FM published on Monday that the singer almost dropped a song from her latest album, Guts; Rodrigo will be seen in September
“I think it’s such a beautiful song and I was so shocked that she didn’t want to release it,” she said.
McRae also talked about spending time with the 20-year-old Good 4 U singer and how they would share musical ideas with each other during the production of “Guts.”
She recalled: “Olivia played me these songs and said, ‘God, I hate it, it’s so terrible,’ and I said, ‘Girl, what are you talking about?’ That’s incredible.”
The singer also spoke about the difficulties songwriters often face when writing new tracks.
“It’s such an interesting thing because when songs are still in the works, the doubts pile up like, ‘Is this a terrible song or is this a great song?’ ‘Because you’re so biased,’ she said.
Guts’ first single titled “Vampire” garnered widespread attention from fans and critics last June when it peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The album’s second single, Bad Idea Right?, was released the following month and had similar success.
Guts was finally released on September 8th and was met with widespread acclaim from reviewers.
Looking back, McRae said that Rodrigo was “a little unsure about releasing ‘Pretty Isn’t Pretty,’ which is one of my favorites on the album.”
