“There seems to be no time to celebrate”: MTV EMAs 2023 Awards canceled after war in Israel

The MTV Europe Music Awards ceremony, scheduled to take place in Paris on Sunday, November 5, has been canceled due to “the volatility of world events,” Paramount announced in an official statement last Thursday.

It is the first time the show has been canceled since its launch in 1994, with celebrations continuing as planned even during the pandemic.

“Given the volatility of global events, we have decided not to move forward with the 2023 MTV EMAs out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of staff, crew members, artists, fans and partners traveling from all corners of the world to bring the show to life. The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music. As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza, this does not seem to be a time for global celebration. With thousands of people having already lost their lives, it is a time of mourning. “We hope to host the MTV EMAs again in November 2024,” a company spokesperson said.

Latin artists who performed live included Manuel Turizo and Ozuna. Like Jung Kook, The Kid LAROI, Sabrina Carpenter, Coi Leray, Rema, Anne-Marie, David Guetta, Renée Rapp and Thirty Seconds to Mars, their performances at the MTV European Video Music Awards, broadcast live on MTV, were confirmed in more than 150 countries.

“The priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved, so the 2023 MTV EMAs Awards will be canceled accordingly,” the company spokesperson confirmed.
