The bizarre rule that says Jenna Ortega can’t appear as Wednesday Addams this Halloween

After the success of Tim Burton’s hit Wednesday on Netflix in 2022, Jenna Ortega became an overnight global sensation.

Ortega’s portrayal of Wednesday Addams showcased her range as an actress, successfully showcasing the dark humor and unique personality of the macabre character.

Directed by filmmaking legend Tim Burton, the series’ first season not only showcased 21-year-old Jenna’s acting talent, but also introduced her to a wider audience and cemented her status as a rising star in the industry.

In January, it was announced that Netflix had confirmed a renewal for a second season of Wednesday, which would see Ortega once again appear in her iconic pigtails and black clothing.

But as the costume department works on Wednesday Addams’ next looks, it appears that Jenna has been prevented from dressing up as her character off-screen.

Amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes, a new rule has been put in place that will prevent Jenna from being Wednesday Addams – even when it comes to Halloween costumes – until the strikes end.

In July, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Radio and Television Artists (SAG-AFTRA) decided to show solidarity with the Writers’ Guild of America (WGA), which had been on strike since May, after negotiations with the studios failed.

Hollywood experienced a double work stoppage for the first time in 63 years, halting production across the industry and costing the economy billions of dollars.

The labor dispute threatened to decimate the entertainment industry as production of major films and television shows came to a halt.

SAG-AFTRA has now issued guidelines for Halloween costumes for actors as the strikes continue.

The union said no members would be allowed to dress up as characters, which would violate strike guidelines.

It says that members may dress up as characters from productions that can’t hit, such as some animated series, and that they should choose costumes that are “inspired by general characters and characters.”

Additionally, SAG-AFTRA has instructed its members not to post photos of costumes inspired by affected content on social media.

This means that the participating stars and writers of many popular productions such as Wednesday, Stranger Things and The Last of Us will take part in a strike-friendly Halloween celebration this year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the guild provided further clarification on the rule: “SAG-AFTRA has issued Halloween Guidelines in response to questions from content creators and members about how to support the strike during this festive season.”

“This should help them avoid encouraging strike work and is the latest in a series of guidelines we have issued. “It does not apply to anyone’s children. “We are on strike for important reasons and have been for almost 100 days.”

They added: “Our top priority remains getting studios back to the negotiating table so we can get a fair deal for our members and finally get our industry back to work.”

This comes after Ryan Reynolds and Mandy Moore spoke out this week against the new SAG-AFTRA warning about strike-friendly Halloween costumes.

Responding to the advice, Ryan, 46, joked on
