The United Nations is committed to the security and stability of Lebanon

The official recalled the United Nations’ main goal of protecting future generations from the scourge of war and lamented the increased risks to peace in Lebanon and the region following the continued exchanges across the Blue Line.

In this sense, the representative of the multilateral entity called for a reduction in tensions, an end to violence and the restoration of calm in the region, as well as the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701.

Wronecka noted that the United Nations, with its 26 different agencies, funds and programs in the country, has increased its support to Lebanon in recent years in response to growing challenges.

In this context, he mentioned that these efforts cover the entire spectrum of political and peacekeeping work, humanitarian support and respect for human rights, in an inclusive approach that aims to leave no one behind.

In this sense, he pointed out that while the United Nations is currently coordinating emergency and preparedness plans with Lebanon, it is also actively working with international partners to protect the country from conflict.

Incidentally, the Special Coordinator believed that sustainable peace could only come from within and called for strengthening national unity and collective solidarity to overcome difficult times.

“The best way to achieve this is to strengthen the country’s state institutions, including when electing a new president without further delay,” he stressed.

In this context, he reiterated the call of UN Secretary-General António Guterres to build a future worthy of the dreams of the children of the region and the world.

Concluding his statement, Wronecka reiterated the United Nations’ determination to continue supporting Lebanon in ensuring its sovereignty, territorial integrity, stability and development.

The country’s southern border has been on alert since October 7, when the Palestinian resistance launched Operation Al-Aqsa Deluge in response to more than seven decades of Israeli genocide.
