American League: Joshua Roy has fun at the Rocket in Laval

LAVAL | It won’t have taken long for Joshua Roy to get used to the level of play in the American League. After just five games he is at the top of the scorers list.

The left winger has already collected five goals and six assists, securing a five-point game last Friday.

“It is certain that there is a small cloud, but I shouldn’t rely on it. “I have to turn the page, a new week is coming,” he said on Tuesday afternoon.

“I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into,” he admitted. Everyone said it was a good league and it was excellent. JF [Houle] trust me and I have everything I need to perform well.”

Adjustment

His coach believes that the 20-year-old quickly got used to the new surroundings.

“He’s on the scoresheet and he’s playing well defensively, he’s on top and that’s good to see. “He doesn’t surprise me, so we’re giving him quality game time because he’s showing us what he can do. He is physically ahead of other young people,” explained Jean-François Houle.

But the jump from the QMJHL to the American League is not an easy thing.

“There really is a big difference. Junior is not the same at all, the boys are smaller and especially last year I was with the older ones. It’s less physically demanding than playing here, and it shows.”

Do more

Roy is ambitious, he doesn’t just want his qualities as a playmaker and goalscorer to be noticed

“I want to develop my game in general and focus on that. I’m a scorer, but I really want to improve my overall game and become professional, and I think I’ve made a good step.

“There is the defensive aspect, but I also want to be more involved. I used to be someone who waited a lot and tried to anticipate, and now I’m more after the puck. Those are little things I want to improve on, and I’ve been doing that recently.”
