John Stamos remembers learning about Lori Loughlin’s involvement in the college admissions scandal — and the conversation he was having with her when it broke.
In his newly released memoir, “If You Would Have Tell Me,” Stamos, 60, described how he called his former Full House co-star, 59, about the controversy before it became official, according to an excerpt from the New York Post shows.
Oddly enough, Stamos said Lori struck an oddly casual tone as they discussed the massive legal affair.
Lori was also strangely laissez-faire when she suspected that her phone might have been tapped after Stamos noticed a “clicking” sound in the background of their conversation.
Ultimately, Lori and her husband Mossimo Gianulli, 60, ended up in prison for their roles in the scandal. But despite her fall from grace, Stamos still considers Lori a “cherished” friend.

In his book, Stamos writes, “In March 2019, I received a strange text message from my good friend Roger Lodge at around 5:30 a.m.”
“He asks if Lori is okay. I answered him, “Why, what’s going on?” “Something to do with a college scandal,” he said. “I started Googling but I could find very little. “I knew she was working in Canada, so I called to check on her.”
Oddly enough, John says that Lori was more relaxed about the whole controversy once he got it under control.
“‘Oh, yeah, I’m not sure,’ she replies as casually as if I’d just asked her if Nicky and Alex ate all their vegetables,” he said, referring to the names of their fictional children in ” Full House.”
Even when Lori suspected that her phone line might have been tapped, her tone remained casual.
“I’ve seen a few emails from lawyers to Moss lately, but I’m staying out of it.” Before I can process her response, I notice a strange click on the phone line. When I asked her about it, she went back to her laissez-faire tone: “Oh, they could tap my phone,” he said.
Shortly after Stamos hung up, the controversy became the biggest headline in the news.
“I immediately texted Lori: ‘Are you watching the news?’” he recalled. “An FBI agent announces the largest college admissions scandal the Justice Department has ever handled. It’s about bribes to renowned colleges for fake student admissions.” She asks: “Which channel?” I write back in capital letters: “EVERY CHANNEL!”

However, Stamos didn’t let the scandal destroy their relationship and he said she remains a “valued” friend.
“Lori Loughlin remains a valued friend to this day. We have weathered storms together and stood by each other despite life’s hurdles. “We saw each other at our worst,” he said.
“I have experienced moments where giving up would have been the easiest way out for Lori. She could have shifted the blame and caused her family, her marriage, and her life to collapse. But she didn’t,” he wrote.
“No matter how hard she was hit, how desperately everyone tried to cancel her and throw her in with the pack of brutal criminals, she stood firm and protected her daughters from the mud that was thrown at them day after day.”

Loughlin and husband Mossimo Giannulli were both arrested in March 2019 for their involvement in the college admissions scandal orchestrated by Rick Singer.
Both pleaded guilty in May 2020 to falsely naming daughters Olivia Jade Giannulli and Isabella Rose Giannulli as recruits for the University of Southern California crew team, even though neither had ever participated in the sport.
In the end, the actress served nearly two months in a low-security prison between October and December 2020, agreed to pay a $150,000 fine and perform 150 hours of community service, while Giannulli served nearly five months behind bars from November 2020 to 2020 April 2021.
Stamos has already defended Lori in the wake of the scandal, claiming last year that she was only a minor part of the scandal.
Speaking on Dax Shepherd’s Armchair Expert podcast, he said: “I’m going to say this, and she said I could.” “She wasn’t really the originator of any of it – she was in the background,” he claimed. “She didn’t know what was going on.”
Stamos also said that the felon’s punishment is reason enough for people to give her a break now.
“She paid a lot of money too.” “She started a college fund for kids and went to jail for it, man,” he added.
