New York Times Editors Note on Gaza Hospital Coverage

New York Times Editor’s Note on Gaza Hospital Coverage – The New York Times

The New York Times published an editor’s note on Monday about its coverage of an Oct. 17 explosion at a hospital in Gaza City. The first report, which featured a major headline on the Times website, began with Hamas government officials claiming that the explosion was caused by an Israeli airstrike.

However, according to the editor’s note, the Times’ initial reports “relied too heavily on Hamas claims and did not make it clear that these claims could not be immediately verified.”

The note continued: “The report left readers with a false impression about what was known and how credible the account was.”

Times Editor-in-Chief Joe Kahn speaks with Lulu Garcia-Navarro about the Editor’s Note and how the Times plans to cover the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas.
