Sylvia Jeffreys admits her children are addicted to iPads and argues old school TV habits were better

Sylvia Jeffreys has admitted her children are addicted to watching TV on iPads.

In a candid parenting column for 9Honey, the 37-year-old wrote about what her kids might be missing out on in the age of streaming.

The “Today” show host told readers that her children “may never experience the absolute ecstasy of a date night screening because they will immediately expect another episode of their favorite show.”

She claimed that waiting for her favorite shows to air when she was younger taught her the value of patience and perseverance, a quality that on-demand streaming does not have.

“As a music-loving high school student, the early hours of Saturday mornings (before netball games) were dedicated to Rage,” Jeffreys wrote.

“But as early risers, my brother, sister and I would often have to do side steps and knee kicks for half an hour on Aerobics Oz Style before the satisfying, repetitive opening line finally blared through the television; “Anger, anger, ra-ra anger, raaaaaaaaaaaage.”

“The mother of two also reflected on how the TV Guide provided structure and deadlines for her as a busy teenager.

“Homework had to be done before Heartbreak High and broccoli had to be eaten before the Neighbors theme song played at 6:30 p.m.”

“Patience is a virtue, and while I wouldn’t give up my streaming services, I wonder if a little old-school live TV now and then could be a healthy form of screen time for kids in times of need. “Satisfaction,” she concluded.

The television presenter revealed that despite her successful career, family is her top priority.

The Today show star told the Daily Telegraph in August that she always makes time for the two young sons she shares with husband Peter Stefanovic.

“I don’t take it for granted that I will be able to find a certain balance in my life in this regard,” said the 37-year-old.

“Because more than anything, I just want to be with my kids, especially when they’re this age,” she continued.

“I know that’s the most important thing in life, so I try to make sure I get as much as I can out of those hours of the day every day.”

The luxurious two-story property in the cosmopolitan eastern suburbs cost the couple $2.7 million in 2016.

Since then, some renovations have been made, including a two-car parking space and an outdoor entertaining area in the backyard.

“We’re not sure what the next step is yet.” “We’re looking, so we’ll see what’s next,” Sylvia said.

The couple tied the knot on April 1, 2017 at the Ooralba Estate in Kangaroo Valley.

In 2020, Sylvia and Peter, 42, welcomed their first son Oscar, now three, in February.

Just eight months later, the TV presenter announced that she was pregnant with her second child, a son, Henry, who is now two years old.

“I don’t take it for granted that I will be able to find a certain balance in my life in this regard,” said the 37-year-old. “Because more than anything, I just want to be with my kids.”
