The top prize for best dairy cow in North America went to Shakira, a Quebecer.
Shakira was crowned Supreme Grand Champion, representing Jacobs Farm in Cap-Santé. This is his second win in three years in this competition.
Shakira won against her competitors from around the world at the prestigious World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin.
“Shakira is a cow that ages very well and has an exceptional character according to her breed,” says Ysabel Jacobs, co-owner of the Jacobs Farm. “The older she gets, the peppier she gets and the more people like her.”
Economic advantages for the company
Such a cow is worth its weight in gold because in such a competition several breeders from all over the world come together and are ready to buy the genetics of these cows.
“The benefits are indirect but come with their daughters, which they will sell at very high prices next year,” says Ms Jacobs. “It is a cow that is popular in the eyes of good breeders.”
