“The View” co-host defended the “Cry Me A River” singer against Britney Spears’ now-famous shock claim in her book “The Woman in Me” that he got her pregnant in the early 2000s and the couple decided to move forward with it an abortion because Timberlake allegedly didn’t want to be a father.

“It was a gut punch when I read it, but think about the pressure that these two young icons were under at the time,” Griffin told the show’s executive producer Brian on Tuesday’s “Behind the Table” podcast Teta.

“They had to live this myth and act as if they were playing very sexified people in their public lives. They had to pretend they were virgins, and as an adult I think, ‘Of course they weren’t.'”

Spears and Timberlake dated from 1999 to 2002. The former boy bander is said to have cheated on the “Toxic” singer with “another celebrity,” while Spears revealed in her book that she cheated on Timberlake with choreographer Wade Robson.

Griffin continued on the podcast: “I think it shows like a human side of a story that in hindsight it makes perfect sense that they went through all those struggles.” The challenge of that is a difficult topic in the context of reproductive health . I firmly believe that both people, both parents, have a say in what happens to the child.”

“It was heartbreaking to hear her say that if that wasn’t what he wanted, she might have done something different. But I hope for her sake, talking about it was helpful and now you can see how important it was to her to have children. She has her children, she had talked about wanting more. I could spend hours analyzing how Britney was treated,” the superfan continued.

She ended by saying, “The pressure of being hypersexualized and then having to act like you’re a virgin… like they’ve both been through hell in different ways and I’m going to try to give them both a little grace through it.”

Spears had two sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline – Sean Preston, 18, and Jayden, 17.

Although the pop star hasn’t seen her sons in almost two years, she dedicated “The Woman in Me” to the couple, calling them “the loves of my life.”
