Among the main objectives of the military operation, which has been carried out for several years, is the fight against drug trafficking, organized crime, smuggling and other threats to national security and sovereignty.
The army’s statement said that the XX. Phase of the operation took place from the 2nd to the 16th of this month, the results of which were described as positive.
In this sense, the arrest of criminals, the confiscation of drugs, weapons, money and other illegal items and the detention of 138 migrants were reported.
During the Sandino-Morazán operation, military personnel, aircraft, vehicles and specialized equipment will be deployed on both sides of the border to carry out patrols, checks, searches, arrests and seizures of people and property involved in illegal activities.
Last Monday, the Commander-in-Chief of the Nicaraguan Army, Julio César Avilés, and the Chief of the General Staff of the Honduran Armed Forces, Jorge Fortín Aguilar, held a working meeting to strengthen friendship, collaboration and collaboration between both military institutions.
Among the agreements of this meeting, the long-term maintenance of the aforementioned military action, whose name is a tribute to the national heroes Augusto C. Sandino and Francisco Morazán, stood out.
