Crusoe: Erdogan’s Cloth for Hamas The Antagonist

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan (photo), stated this Wednesday, 25, that Hamas is “not a terrorist organization” but a “liberation group that fights to protect its country”.

“Hamas is not a terrorist organization, it is a liberation group, ‘mujahideen’, waging a struggle to protect its land and its people,” he said, using the Arabic word to describe those who fight for religion.

Erdogan also said he would cancel a trip to Israel.

“Israel is killing children. We can never allow these children to be killed. I told her Prime Minister that [Benjamin Netanyahu] once, in Davos. He abused our goodwill. We had planned a trip to Israel, but it was canceled. They abused our goodwill,” Erdogan said.

The romanticization of Hamas, even after the group killed more than 1,300 Israelis, is a common feature across much of the Arab world and the global left. However, to believe that Hamas has a legitimate cause is to ignore the real aim of the October 7 attacks. “A wellestablished myth is that Hamas essentially fights and carries out terrorism against the Israeli occupation. The truth is, Hamas’ focus is on undermining peace progress between Israel and the Palestinians and the normalization of relations between Israel and Arab countries. “Hamas is the vanguard of global jihadism,” wrote journalist Caio Blinder in X.
